I left yesterday to go on a 10 day vacation. I guess it’s really a nine day vacation since all I did yesterday was drive for 6 hours and have a lackluster dinner at a beach restaurant. I’ll also spend my last day driving 9 hours back home, so I guess you could really just call it an 8 day vacation. I’m never sure if you should count your travel days as vacation days. I like being on vacation, but I hate traveling. I believe from here on out I’m not going to count the travel days if I have to travel for more than 3 hours. There, it’s settled, I’m on an 8 day vacation.
My drive yesterday began at my office and ended in Brookings, OR. I stopped in Salem to visit my Wife’s Grandmother. She is 91 years old and lives in a nursing home there. I had not seen her in several years. I don’t think she remembered me, but it’s hard to tell. I remember years ago, when she still had all of faculties about her, she told me, “It’s hell to get old.” How right she was.
From Salem I continued down I-5 to Grant’s Pass. This section of the number 5 Interstate Highway is mostly only 2 lanes wide in each direction. There are a lot of 18 wheel trucks travelling the section as well. This means that the right lane is essentially relegated to trucks and the left lane is consistently stacked up with cars. This is not a good situation for a chronic road-rager like me. I only “saw” one person flip me off, but I’m sure there were others that I must have upset. Oh well, that sign that says “Keep right except to pass” actually means something folks.
From Grant’s Pass I took Hwy 199 over to Crescent City, and then caught 101 up to Brookings. I’m playing golf here today at a course called Salmon Run. I’ve wanted to play this course for a long time, so this stop was specifically to play here. I’m heading that direction now.
