Too much food

My wife and I went out to dinner with a good friend last night.   I tend to eat too much when I’m with him.   I think that we just both love food and so it’s really easy to order everything we want with no regard for whether we can actually eat it or not.   We are also very competitive when it comes to eating, so neither of us will back down from a food related challenge.
We went to a restaurant called Dragon Fish.   We actually sat in the bar, which is where I usually sit when I go there.   We found out that because it was Monday night (Momokawa Monday), there was a special where most of the appetizers and some of the sushi was half off.   For some reason it sounded like a good idea to get everything.   I counted it up and that would have been 17 plates of food.  We decided that getting them all was a bit too much, so I cut out the edamame, chicken lettuce cups, and two of the sushi rolls.   13 plates of food is much more reasonable.   Our waitress actually asked me if I was sure.
“Of course I’m sure!”
When the food came out it was a little shocking.   It turns out that 13 plates of food won’t even really fit on the table.   We had to eat fast as things came out to create more space.  We plowed through about half of it before we had to settle down into a more paced approach as we tried to get through the rest.
The waitress came by periodically, “Are guys going to need a box?”
“No way, we will finish this!”
I felt like I was in an episode of “Man vs. Food”.   I somehow felt my honor was at stake to eat everything on the table.   I must be retarded.  I’m really too old to compete in eating contests with my friends.   We ultimately failed.   We actually failed miserably.   It was clear that the restaurant was closing.   The waitress came by and took away the candle on our table.   I think this was the final sign that she was really ready for us to leave.   We still had at least 20 pieces of sushi left to go.   We broke down and took the box.   It was a little sad.    I think I could have eaten it all 20 years ago when my friend and I first began gorging ourselves together.   Time is cruel.
